ABOUT DR. BRETT SHORE

Southern California’s Comprehensive Hip Specialist

Dr. Brett Shore is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in comprehensive care of the hip. His expertise spans non-surgical treatment, hip preservation, minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery, and total hip replacement.

His approach is individualized to each patient, with treatment plans shaped by the diagnosis, activity level, goals, and long-term joint health. By offering both conservative and advanced surgical options, Dr. Shore can evaluate the full range of appropriate care before determining the best path forward.

Expertise Across the Full Continuum of Hip Care

With specialized training in both conservative care and advanced surgical techniques, Dr. Shore treats a broad range of hip conditions, from sports-related injuries and labral tears to hip impingement, dysplasia, arthritis, and other complex disorders. Whenever possible, he prioritizes preserving the natural hip joint and restoring function before considering replacement.

Dr. Shore completed his undergraduate education at Princeton University, where he was the recipient of the George Khoury Award for academic excellence in molecular biology and played rugby. He went on to receive his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, where he was elected to the AOA honor society.

He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the Harvard Combined Orthopedic Residency in Boston, followed by a sports medicine fellowship at the James Andrews Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama. During his fellowship, Dr. Shore gained advanced experience in the treatment of athletic injuries and complex hip conditions, including minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques.

His clinical expertise includes hip arthroscopy, treatment of femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), labral repair, hip preservation, and total hip replacement. By combining preservation and replacement expertise within a single practice, Dr. Shore is able to evaluate the full spectrum of treatment options and guide patients toward the approach most appropriate for their condition and stage of life.

Dr. Shore’s philosophy is grounded in personalized care and thoughtful decision-making. He works closely with each patient to understand how hip pain is affecting their daily life, activity level, and long-term goals before developing a treatment plan. Surgery is considered when appropriate, but it is not treated as the automatic first step.

Before entering private practice, Dr. Shore served as an orthopedic surgeon and physician leader within a large multidisciplinary orthopedic group in Southern California. His experience treating patients across the full continuum of hip care helped shape his comprehensive approach today.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Shore enjoys spending time with his wife, Dr. Amy Shore, and their two daughters. He is also an avid fitness enthusiast and enjoys an active Southern California lifestyle, including hiking, rock climbing, snowboarding, adventure seeking, and live music.
